ATLANTA – Georgia Tech has emerged as one of the most compelling surprise stories of the 2025 college football season. The Yellow Jackets enter their first bye week with a perfect 5-0 record and a No. 17 national ranking, their highest spot in the polls since the Paul Johnson era. A thrilling overtime win over Wake Forest on September 27 capped an unbeaten September run that has brought new energy to The Flats.
Under third-year head coach Brent Key The Jackets have found the right blend of offensive creativity and defensive toughness. Quarterback play has been efficient, the ground game has provided balance, and the defense has delivered timely stops in key moments. After several seasons of rebuilding, Tech appears to have turned the corner — not just competing, but winning consistently against quality competition.
Georgia Tech’s early-season surge includes statement victories over Colorado and Clemson, along with gritty road wins that showcased the team’s resilience. The offense has averaged over 35 points per game, while the defense has tightened up in the red zone, allowing the team to survive close contests. Perhaps most impressively, Tech has excelled in high-pressure moments, including back-to-back game-winning drives in the fourth quarter.
The bye week comes at a pivotal moment, with ACC play ramping up in October. Georgia Tech faces a tough stretch that includes Virginia Tech, Duke, and Syracuse, followed by key road trips to NC State and Boston College. If the Jackets can maintain their momentum, they’ll be positioned to contend for their first ACC Championship Game berth since 2014.
For now, Georgia Tech fans are enjoying the ride. From preseason afterthought to top-20 contender, the Yellow Jackets have firmly planted themselves in the national conversation — and their upcoming slate will reveal just how high this team can climb.
Remaining 2025 Schedule:
- vs Virginia Tech
- at Duke
- vs Syracuse
- at NC State
- at Boston College
- vs Pitt
- vs Georgia (neutral site / non-conference)
Georgia Tech traditionally has stumbled in November, especially against ACC opponents and against Georgia. In 2024 Tech lost to Syracuse and Virginia Tech, two teams that Georgia Tech will play in the back half of the season and if this team is different, say, with solid QB play and Brent Key’s physical identity, they could push for a 10+ win season, which hasn’t happened since 2014. Lets project their remaining 2025 game-by-game results:
vs Virginia Tech Hokies: Georgia Tech has won 3 of the last 4 meetings; games are usually close and defensive battles. Projection: Tech wins 27–20. Record 6–0.
at Duke Blue Devils: Tech has won 12 of the last 15 vs Duke. Projection: Georgia Tech wins 31–17. Record 7–0.
vs Syracuse Orange: The Yellow Jackets lead the series 4-2. Projection: Georgia Tech wins 34–16. Record 8–0. Possibly Top 10 nationally entering November.
at NC State Wolfpack: NC State usually tough at home late in the year. NC State typically fields one of the ACC’s best defenses. This is a classic trap game. Projection: Georgia Tech loses 20–17. First loss of the season. 8–1 (5–1 ACC).
at Boston College Eagles: The Jackets have split the last few meetings; travel & weather can be tricky in November. Projection: Tech wins 24–14. 9–1 (6–1 ACC). Clinching strong position in ACC title race.
vs Pitt Panthers: Tech has won 3 of last 4; Pitt offense has regressed since 2022. Projection: Georgia Tech wins 28–17. 10–1 (7–1 ACC). Likely ACC Championship Game berth on the line.
at Georgia Bulldogs: UGA has won 18 of the last 21. Tech last won in 2016 (OT). Projection: Georgia Tech wins 35–31. 11–1 (7–1 ACC) final regular season record.
ACC Championship Game Projection: Georgia Tech (11–1, 7–1 ACC) vs Miami Hurricanes (12–0, 8–0 ACC) Miami projected to run the table in the ACC. Series history: Miami leads all-time 14–13; games have been extremely competitive since GT joined the ACC. Projection: Georgia Tech loses 27-24. 11–2 (7–2 ACC)

Historical Significance: Winning the ReliaQuest bowl would be a major accomplishment for Georgia Tech, enhancing national recognition, recruiting, and program momentum and capping off a very successful 2025 season.
