Saturday marks the 28th meeting between Colorado and Wyoming, a series that has been dormant since their last matchup on September 19, 2009, in Boulder. Colorado boasts a strong 24–2–1 record against Wyoming. Despite being just 110 miles apart, the two teams have rarely faced off, with only seven games played since 1947.

Wyoming started the season with two wins against Akron and UNI but stumbled against Utah, a formidable opponent. Their defense has shown promise, ranking 27th in EPA (Expected Points Added) per play, however the offense has struggled with quarterback inconsistency and a lack of sustained drives. This team isn’t designed for high-scoring shootouts, but they thrive in a gritty, physical game. Wyoming aims to dictate the pace, dominate field position, and take advantage of any mistakes made by Colorado.

Meanwhile, Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes are eager to bounce back from a 1-2 start as they prepare to host Wyoming in Week 4. With Kadion Salter returning as quarterback, Colorado’ offense aims to find their rhythm before entering the Big 12 season.  Defensively, Colorado’s performance has been a bit of a mixed bag. Their pass defense has held up well over the first three games, showing decent coverage and limiting big plays in the air. However, the run defense is still a significant issue. The front seven struggles to establish dominance, and mobile quarterbacks have been able to exploit this weakness far too easily.

Both teams have faced offensive challenges this year, but Colorado’s home advantage and superior offensive capabilities position them as the favorites in this matchup. Wyoming’s defense has the potential to keep the game close, but they might find it tough to keep up with Colorado’s rising offensive threats. Look for a steady pace early on, but expect Colorado to pull ahead in the second half.
