The Wyoming Cowboys kicked off their season with a win, albeit not the most impressive one, and are now gearing up for their week two matchup against Northern Iowa, an FCS team from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. This game marks the first at the newly renovated War Memorial Stadium and is set against the backdrop of the high plains in 2025. Historically, the Cowboys have had a tough time with FCS teams at home, including a narrow 17-13 defeat to Idaho last season. A strong performance is crucial for the Cowboys to reassure their fans of their potential to contend for a conference championship, especially after a lackluster offensive showing against one of the weaker FBS programs in recent years last week.

This game promises to be quite intriguing and will help clarify the standings of both teams. Wyoming fans understand that securing a win in Laramie requires a solid defense, effective clock management, and gradually wearing down the competition. Expect a similar approach this time, with quarterback Kaden Anderson aiming to complete over 50% of his passes and adding a few touchdowns to his tally.

The Panthers kicked off their season with an impressive 38-14 victory against Butler. They amassed a total of 448 yards, splitting it between 235 passing yards and 213 rushing yards. Quarterback Matthew Schecklman was a standout, throwing four touchdown passes. On the defensive side, the Panthers were equally formidable, intercepting the opposing quarterback twice and forcing two fumbles, one of which they successfully recovered.

Wyoming showcased a strong offensive performance against Akron, racking up over 400 yards and nearly doubling the Zips’ total yardage. Despite entering opposing territory seven times, they only managed to score 10 points, highlighting that yardage alone doesn’t translate to success on the scoreboard. This week, however, could be a breakout moment for QB Kaden Anderson and the offense. Facing a more formidable opponent in Wyoming, who boasts greater talent, size, and speed than UNI typically encounters, the Cowboys are expected to secure a comfortable victory by at least three touchdowns—unless there are lingering issues within the team that need addressing. I will take Wyoming  over Northern Iowa 31-10! Go Pokes!
