Auburn football is gearing up for its third season under head coach Hugh Freeze, following a disappointing year where the team missed a bowl game for only the second time since 2013. Despite this setback, there’s renewed optimism among Tigers fans thanks to a significant roster overhaul, particularly at the quarterback position. With the addition of Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton and other key players, Coach Freeze has a solid opportunity to make strides in 2025. However, for the offense to truly thrive, quarterback Jackson Arnold must fend off competition from former Notre Dame recruit Deuce Knight and ex-Stanford starter Ashton Daniels. The talent is certainly present, but it’s crucial for Arnold to step up and lead the team effectively.
Hugh Freeze is preparing for the possibility of QB Jackson Arnold not starting strong, which is why he brought in QB Deuce Knight and QB Ashton Daniels to Auburn. Knight is the top recruit in Auburn’s 2025 class, while Daniels has two years of starting experience at Stanford. Additionally, WR transfer Eric Singleton will team up with Coleman to form a solid wide receiver duo. The running back situation looks promising too, with Damari Alston and UConn transfer Durrell Robinson both averaging over six yards per carry in 2024. If Jeremiah Cobb, the most talented back in the group, steps up, Freeze could have a formidable backfield ready to take on Georgia, one of the SEC’s toughest teams, on October 11.
Hugh Freeze has built a reputation as a talented offensive playcaller, and his hiring was partly influenced by his previous successes against Alabama during his time at Ole Miss. This makes Auburn’s offensive struggles in his first two seasons all the more puzzling for fans. However, with solid quarterback play, ( I believe it will be Jackson Arnold, a former Oklahoma transfer) and the two new ACC wideouts, joining sophomore Cam Coleman, I believe we can expect noticeable offensive improvements in 2025 on the Plains.
Auburn’s defense has shown solid consistency under second-year defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, currently sitting in the middle of the league for total defense. With six returning starters, including standout junior EDGE Keldric Faulk and promising sophomore linebacker Demarcus Riddick, the team is poised for another strong performance in 2025. Faulk, who led the team with seven sacks and was second in tackles for loss with 11 last season, along with Keyron Crawford at the Buck linebacker position, could create a formidable duo. To bolster their run defense, Auburn will need tackles like Quientrail Jamison-Travis and Malik Blocton to step up and hold their ground.
This season, Auburn is ranked as the 25th team in the FBS according to ESPN’s SP+ rankings, with predictions for the 2025 football season suggesting they might secure around 7 to 8 wins, which would fall short of the coveted 9-win mark. Whether the Tigers can achieve that milestone remains uncertain, as they face a tough schedule and the need for consistent performance.I believe they can achieve nine wins, which will be intriguing as it positions Auburn as a serious contender in the College Football Playoff discussions. War Eagle!
