Wyoming Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Arizona State in Week 1

Former head coach Craig Bohl retired after his 10th season on the job. DC Jay Sawvel was promoted to Head Coach to replace Bohl, while Sawvel’s old job was filled by Bohl’s son, Aaron. The program still has that Bohl DNA and nothing stops.Tough defense, tough offense, tough plays for opposing teams to play. Wyoming has its niche, and it’ll keep on working.

Who: Wyoming (0-0) at Arizona State (0-0)
Where: Mountain America Stadium Tempe, AZ
When: 10:30 pm ET Saturday, August 31, 2024
TV: FS1
Line: Wyoming is a 7-point underdog

Wyoming returns 15 starters — eight on defense and seven on offense — but will have a new starting QB in Evan Svoboda and a new starting RB in North Carolina transfer DJ Jones. Wyoming stunned Texas Tech 35-33 in double overtime last year can they upset another Big 12 team this year?

Lets Get Bold:

3. The Cowboys’s offense will ground-and-pound while grinding to victory

With running back Harrison Waylee on the sidelines due to a knee injury, the North Carolina transfer DJ Jones is expected to anchor the running back group. This is a Wyoming team that is always based on its ability to establish the run. Can Wyoming prove it on the road against a Sun Devils defense that struggled in the trenches last season? I say YES!

2. The Cowboys’s defense will shut down the Arizona State rush offense

ASU offers a veteran group of receivers with size headlined by 6-foot-4 Troy Omeire. Can Wyoming led by DB Keany Parks limit the big plays or will he be exposed as a liability?  That may be the million dollar question of the game. The question already answered is how Wyomings front seven will play. I predict they will stifle the ASU rushing attack which will be a tough task against a seasoned ASU OL. The Cowboys are up for the challange.

1. Evan Svoboda returns home to lead the Cowboys to a road victory

Wyoming gets a juicy opportunity to knock off a program from a power conference when it travels to Arizona State, which is still rebuilding. Evan Svoboda could be the next in line of big, dual-threat quarterbacks who thrive at Wyoming while directing a new spread attack. He’s 6-foot-4, 240-pounds. He runs well and has a big arm. He isn’t afraid to hit somebody. He also wears No. 17.  Expect a big day from Evan as returns to his home state of Arizona .

BOLD PREDICTION: Wyoming 27, Arizona State 24
